#AmeetsA 2014

AMA14-60The Arches, Glasgow last week hosted #AmeetsA, a glittering gala dinner celebrating the fine art and iconic architecture of Glasgow to raise funds for ENABLE Scotland, the charity which supports children and adults affected by or living with learning disabilities.

Movers and shakers of the art and design industry attended the first edition of #AMeetsA –‘Architecture Meets Art’, an event created by Double S Events to support ENABLE’s Inspire Me Programme. This unique concept encouraged established and emerging talent to produce artwork for the charity which were inspired by the rich heritage and special vibe that characterise the city of Glasgow.

Artworks were created and donated by some of the biggest names in the Glasgow art and architecture scene such as David Mach, Gerard M Burns and Avril Paton. Architects Paul Stallan, Narinder Sagoo and Alan Dunlop joined the artists in creating bespoke commissions which saw contributions spanning across all mediums from sculpture, installation art, architectural design as well as drawing and painting.

AMA14-45The pieces that were exhibited at the Italian Centre for two weeks previous to the gala dinner were up for live auction on the night including telephone bids from anonymous art lovers. After a nervous start the crowd were whipped up into a bidding frenzy by the evening’s host, Lady Alex.

Hazel McIlwraith, Assistant Director of Fundraising said “The Scottish Architectural and Design community responded incredibly well to Double S’s invitation to participate to the event. We are so grateful to all the artists, architectures and designers that have helped by creating some stunning pieces of art and also for attending the gala dinner. We are so pleased with the amount of £22,300 raised and certainly we have the calibre of the artists and architects and the enthusiasm from the attendees on the night to thank for this.”

The intention for Architecture Meets Art Glasgow 2014 is not to be a one off event and Enable Scotland and Double S Events are now looking forward to the event returning next year with #AMeetsA 2015 edition.
